Dog Registration
There are a few different ways that the Kai Ken can be registered in the UK despite the Royal Kennel Club not currently recognising the breed, and we would like to offer assistance to any Kai owner in the UK looking at registering their dog.

Kai Ken Aigokai
The Kai Ken Aigokai is the main registry for the breed in Japan. Founded in 1931, the KKA created its own standard for the breed separate from the NIPPO standard for the other Nihon Ken breeds. KKA pedigrees are accepted in some European countries and in the United States, and we strive for these pedigrees to be accepted in the UK with the eventual recognition of the breed.
The Kai Ken Aigokai only accepts registrations from KKA registered dogs, so you cannot back register FCI dogs with them. You also cannot register a dog with the KKA after four months of age.
To register a litter with the Kai Ken Aigokai, you need:

We recommend sending the Irish Kennel Club an email and discussing the process with them directly before you send in your application. The Kai Ken Club of Great Britain are extremely grateful for the support of the Irish Kennel Club so far in our preservation efforts.
There is currently no direct way to register a Kai Ken Aigokai only Kai Ken with the Irish Kennel Club. If you want to register your KKA Kai with the FCI, please contact us for assistance.

The Royal Kennel Club Activity Register is separate to The Royal Kennel Club's breed register, in that it allows any dog regardless of breed or cross to be registered.
While the Kai Ken cannot be registered on the breed register and shown in the UK, it is able to be registered onto the activity register as 'Kai Ken - WTO' to compete in other Royal Kennel Club licensed sports and activities.
Registering onto the activity register also helps us tell The Royal Kennel Club how many Kai Ken are in the UK, and may be helpful down the line when we do seek breed recognition in the UK. You do not need an existing pedigree to register.
It costs just £15 to record your Kai on the activity register, which can be done online at The Royal Kennel Club's website.

Registering with the Club
The Kai Ken Club of Great Britain wants to recognise all Kai Ken in the UK and holds its own registration body for member's dogs free of charge.
While these registrations cannot be used to register under any official bodies, it allows the club to track the growth of the breed in the UK. It also allows us to transliterate pedigrees for those importing from Kai Ken Aigokai breeders which may help with registering those pedigrees under the FCI.
